After two weeks of emergency, on the afternoon on August 6th, both mother and baby’s health were gradually recovered, stabilized.
Before, on the afternoon on July 23rd , she had labored at home. Then, relatives of the pregnant woman called a taxi to Quang Ngai Hospital for Children and Women. When the taxi was about 3 km away from the hospital, she gave birth in the car in reverse pregnancy status, the baby's head was stuck in his mother's vagina.
After the woman was admitted to hospital, obstetricians urgently diagnosed and operated to put the baby's head out.
The baby boy was born weighing 3 kg and not to cry at birth with a discrete heart rate and unresponsive pulse. The pediatric specialists were promptly mobilized to recover the heart, lungs and intubate to save the baby by an inch. The baby was transferred to the Neonatal Department later, put into the medical ventilator room and applied cooling method (hypothermia active rewarming) within 72 hours.
Dr. Tran Thi Hien Trang, Neonatal Department, Quang Ngai Hospital for Children and Women, shared the case of Le’s infant who head was stuck stuck in the mother's vagina, suffocating too long leading to severe brain hypoxia. Thanks to the timely resuscitation, mechanical ventilation and cooling method, the baby was breathing regularly and can breastfeed now.
According to Dr. Trang, the reverse pregnancy status, premature rupture of membranes can lead to unintended consequences such as umbilical cord, fetal distress and birth asphyxia due to lack of oxygen to the brain. The lack of oxygen in the brain for a long time not only slows down brain cells but also causes serious damage to the fetus's brain. As a result, the number of children dying are high and it can leave severe sequelae like mental retardation.
Therefore, mothers need to examine the development of the fetus regularly when they’re pregnant by the pediatric specialists. If there are any abnormal symptoms, the pregnant women need prenatal visits. In the cases of far away the hospital, the pregnant women should prepare for birth early, avoiding the unexpected dangers to the lives of mothers and babies.
